Leading African contemporary art publisher to fill the position of a Business & Advertising Development Manager.  The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities, consulting with and selling within the contemporary African art world on the continent and internationally. The candidate must be commercially astute with excellent communication skills, and a proven record in the sales sector.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Generating leads and maintaining contact with new and existing customer bases.
  • Propose and develop advertising packages across multiple industry sub-sectors, including – but not limited to – contemporary art, creative industries (popular culture), a social and environmental focus, lifestyle (brands and product), and business and investment.
  • Understanding and keeping up-to-date with constant developments in the contemporary art world and trends in popular culture.
  • Identifying new areas into which the brand can grow.
  • Developing a targeted long-term business strategy that encompasses both the regional and international art world, and fosters growth in these key areas.
  • Develop an annual sales plan and strategy, with projections and targets.
  • Reporting on sales in relation to the annual projections.
  • Working closely with the management team to develop bespoke strategies and campaigns in order to attract new business.
  • Maximising all networking opportunities at events, (social and business) including – but not limited to – exhibitions, art fairs, biennales, major press events and launches, and conferences.


The ideal candidate will also be required to work with the publishing team on special projects, fundraising, and sponsorships from time to time. This would be for both ART AFRICA magazine and its subsidiary agency, THAT_COLLECTIVE for various art events and exhibitions for the publication and its subsidiary agency (project management skills an advantage).
 

Requirements

Key Skills and Requirements: 

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in the Business Development/New Business/Account Management sectors. Experience with face-to-face selling and negotiation is essential (previous experience/knowledge in the art sector is an advantage).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must be a skilled sales practitioner with strong pitching skills.
  • Our audience and client-base are made up of a diverse demographic. As a result, the candidate must be comfortable communicating across this spectrum.
  • Candidate must have the ability to read a client and know when to apply a soft or hard sell approach.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to self-manage.
  • The ideal candidate must be determined, outgoing, positive, articulate and diplomatic.
  • French-speaking is an advantage.
