ICLEI Africa seeks to appoint an exceptional, dynamic Events Coordinator in this exciting new post. The incumbent will be responsible for planning and co-ordinating all events for the organisation, from local to pan-African to international events. These events may range from small city tours for dignitaries, to high level roundtables, to large conferences and expos.  

The work will include project managing all aspects of events, such as:

  • Working with a team to conceptualise and plan events
  • Writing and coordinating host city bids
  • Marketing the event and securing partnerships and sponsorships
  • Holding progress meetings
  • Ongoing communication and feedback to line manager 
  • Budgeting and managing budgets
  • Coordinating technical inputs from a range of staff and partners
  • Drafting event programmes and liaising with speakers
  • Advising on protocol
  • Sending invites and managing RSVPs
  • Maintaining an event database
  • Managing online and onsite registration and fee payment
  • Liaising with suppliers and sourcing quotes (venue, caterers etc.)
  • Procuring goods and services
  • Writing web content related to events
  • Drafting content for promotional materials
  • Producing and distributing event reports

  • A relevant diploma or degree
  • Minimum of five years' events coordination experience
  • Experience in working in/with the NGO sector and/or private sector
  • Excellent references
  • Highly computer literate and excellent communications experience
  • Valid code B driving licence and own transport
  • South African resident/valid work or critical skills permit

 The following would be advantageous:

  • Experience in working with/in different levels and structures of government
  • A demonstrated understanding of/experience in the environmental field
  • Experience in working in Africa and at global level
  • Fluency in another global language, preferably French and/or Portuguese
