Your Success Is Our Only Objective

Manage the operational activities and the business development of the Food & Catering Supplies business unit.

 

Commercial Management and Development:

Research target markets and companies and prepare client specific proposals for food and catering supply solutions

Manage new business opportunities to ensure repeat business

Manage existing client relationships to ensure continued business dealings

Ensure the development and growth of the food and catering supplies division with a resultant increase in market share

Source new suppliers and products (both locally and internationally) and determine their suitability for the export market

Establish relationships with suppliers and negotiate better rates

Product range includes: Fruit & vegetables, meat, fish, dairy, groceries, beverages, kitchen consumables, kitchen equipment, cleaning products, catering clothing…

 

Operations:

Develop and ensure that policies, procedures and checklists are followed

Manage the timely and accurate preparation of quotes to clients, including the clarification of client specifications, choice of suppliers, product quality, product packaging, profit margins, etc.

Manage the timely and accurate expediting of orders to ensure that all client specifications have been met

Ensure the quality, shelf life and packaging of foods and catering supplies meets client requirements every time

Ensure the accuracy of all documentation from quotes through to orders, packing lists and customer invoices

Ensure all necessary export and import documentation has been arranged on a timely basis

Resolve any errors and manage any claims

Ensure that all paperwork for each project is completed and filed

As this is a hands-on role, also responsible for the preparation of quotes and expediting of orders from time to time.

Local and international travel may be required

Performance Management:

Effectively manage a team of buyers

Develop Key Performance Area (KPA) measures for the department

Manage workload, activities, productivity levels, efficiency, accuracy, and quality of work

Develop staff competence. Ensure that staff are skilled on all product types

Conduct staff performance appraisals on a timely basis

Manage poor performance

Any other duty that is reasonable and relevant to this position

 

REPORTING LEVEL:

The Food & Catering Supplies Manager reports to the Managing Director

 

SUPERSIVORY RESPONSIBILITY:

The Food & Catering Supplies Manager supervises a small team of Traders

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Degree or Diploma in Food Service Management / Hospitality / Purchasing Management / Commerce or any other equivalent or relevant qualification

Ideal candidates will have sound experience (5 to 7 years) including:

Experience in a commercial management role, and

A minimum of 5 years in catering management / outsourced catering, and/or

A minimum of 3 years in a procurement role, preferably of food and catering supplies

Preference will be given to candidates who have managed exports to African countries

Above average to strong communication skills in English and preferably French (verbal and written)

Portuguese would be highly advantageous

Strong problem solving skills

Must be highly detailed, structured and organised

Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player

Excellent customer service skills

Works effectively with client, supplier and company personnel within all organizational levels

Excellent data analysis skills. Strong skills in Excel required
